• 21,610 people were killed by disasters last year. The country with the most human lives lost was China followed by Indonisia, Phillippines, U.S.A.Vietnam, Japan and Brazil.

• That statistic is very far from the 2003 - 2012 annual average of 106,654 deaths worldwide.

• Up to September 2014, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) reported 61 typhoons, tropical storms, hurricanes, earthquakes,volcanoes, floods, landslides, avalances, disease outbreaks, droughts and wildfires.
